Boudoir Privacy: Are My Boudoir Photos Safe?

This post may contain affiliate links.

Boudoir PRIVACY. This has been one of the common questions and issues of people who want to have a boudoir photo session. “Are my photos private?”

The answer: YES.

There might be some doubt in your mind about that. Most women who go through an intimate photoshoot can’t help but feel uneasy, uncomfortable, and full of doubts…at least at first.

Boudoir photography is often thought of as something for yourself or your partner only. So how do we at Portraits for Women go about having images to share on our website AND respect your boudoir privacy?

If you’re planning on a boudoir photoshoot and you have reservations about privacy, a simple conversation with us will ease your mind. There are options for you! And your photographer (that’s me!), is sure to find a path that works for you. After all, I’ve been at this for over a decade, and have worked out a system that benefits everyone!

KEEPING YOUR BOUDOIR PHOTOS PRIVATE

This is how boudoir shoots should be – completely private and just keeping it all to yourselves. Most photographers will take your photos, show it to you for viewing, and allow you to select your favorites for albums, wall prints, and/or digital files. After that, the purchased images are either saved in a private drive that only the staff can access in case you want to get a back-up someday or something happens to your photos – this is what I do; or they simply delete your images after your ordered products have been delivered.

WHAT ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER’S WEBSITE PORTFOLIO?

At your Reveal/Ordering Session, you will see your edited images and choose the ones you want to add to your album, wall art, and/or digital order. During this private session, we will go over our model release.

YOU get to decide what we use for our portfolio, marketing materials, and promos. Our model release specifies not only which images (if any) we can use, but also how we can use them.

Some clients allow for a print marketing release only. Examples include wall art and albums held in the studio as product samples, or even magazine ads and printed mailers.  The images are never shared on social media or on the website.

Other clients choose to allow us to share their images online, as well. Some even specify which exact social media channels we can use their images on. (i.e. website is ok, but Facebook is not).

Types of Boudoir Privacy Agreements & Images

KEEP IT ANONYMOUS

Anonymity is the best option if you want to share your images to be used in the photographer’s website or other marketing collateral yet you don’t want people to recognize you. In boudoir photography, there is art in being anonymous. Most of these photos focus on the details and do not show your face. If there are other identifying marks in your body – a scar, mole, tattoo, etc. – we can take it out for you.

SHARE SOME, NOT ALL

We will go through your images one by one and you can choose which exact ones are ok to share (and where)…I want you to be completely comfortable with the decisions you are making when it comes to your privacy.

SHARE AWAY, I LOVE THEM ALL

If you’re open to it, then show it to the world! Be proud of yourself, your body, and the photo session you’ve done. When you were looking at photographer galleries, you probably wanted to see someone with your body type, looks like you, etc…your sharing helps other women like you see that they can do this, too. You can actually give us permission to use your photos and share them all online or in print. This is also a great way for other clients to see the (real) work we do.

Really, the options are endless. It would all boil down to your choice. Like everything else we do with you through your experience with us, we will communicate and forge a strong and firm understanding on what you want to do with your photos.

While it makes me sad I can’t share them all, this experience isn’t about me; it’s about YOU. I promise I will never pressure you to share something you don’t want to.

When you have all these mapped out and you and your photographer are on the same page, you’ll surely have the confidence and comfort in moving forward with your boudoir session.

But the moral of the story is that you have nothing to worry about. I’ve got your back, gorgeous.
