Ms J and her empowering, fulfilling and enlightening boudoir session

Ms J came to me for her boudoir photography session to celebrate her anniversary. She had such great ideas for outfits, each picked to surprise and delight her husband. And delighted is exactly what he was!  Read on, I only get to share this one photo, so you’ll have to get to know her though her words!

She gave him one print for their anniversary, to hold him over until her album came in. She emailed me to let me know what he thought. I think it’s one of my favorite responses:

…my husband LOVED, LOVED, LOVED  the initial photo. I did have to give him a little warning beforehand because after 25 years together, I started thinking that the shock of just opening the photo without  pre-mention would be too much for him.  So I did tell him prior to opening the “present” about the session, and it did not diminish the reaction in the least bit.  He thought it was great, and basically slept with it under his pillow that night.  He clutched it like someone would steal it from him.  Crazy!   It reminded me of Finding Nemo where the seagulls see Nemo and Dorrie and says”  Mine, Mine, Mine”.  And now we have that little joke going on between us 🙂

What was your biggest fear before hiring me? Did it come true, and if not, what happened instead? I had two big fears: 1. I wouldn’t look good in the pictures. 2. I would be super uncomfortable in front of the camera or in the studio session. Neither happened. Actually, one of the photos was so professionally done, I didn’t even recognize the image as myself for an instant. Then I thought that that photo really capture mored than my image, it capture the whole sense of self and feeling, it captured my soul, my essence as a woman in one frame. I think it will forever be my favorite photo of myself.

What, specifically, was your favorite part of your experience, and why? My favorite part was the hair and make up session. It was a pampering and glamouring that I don’t normally do for myself, and it really brought out the best of my natural attributes. You feel like a model when you’re done. She was very good at accentuating my natural features.

What advice would you give to someone considering booking a boudoir session with us? Don’t be afraid. You will love it and you will get photos that you and your partner will love. And whenever you are having a bad self image day……just take a look at the photos and it will turn that you mood right around.

What responses did you get from your Beloved/friends/family about your images? Loved it! My husband was a bit surprised, probably didn’t expect this of me, but he is a photographer himself, and he was very impressed with the ultra high quality of the photography and the packaging.

What did you enjoy most during the planning process? I spent several week shopping for my “outfits”, which was a lot of fun. After my husband saw the album, he asked my where all those “fun outfits” were.

What did you take away from your experience that surprised you the most? Hmmmm, probably that I actually had the guts to get in front of a camera with little on.
